Feature summary
As we age, inflammation and free radicals cause damage, threatening the health of delicate tissues. Natural Factors Pycnogenol®, a natural plant extract derived from French maritime pine bark (Pinus pinaster), strengthens cell membranes. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects benefit many conditions, including chronic venous insufficiency, high blood pressure, heart disease, allergies, skin damage, and increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut).
Pycnogenol helps restore the integrity of tissues, improving skin elasticity and smoothness while supporting the health of blood vessels, lung tissue, and intestinal membranes. The formula offers standardized amounts of procyanidins and bioflavonoids, and has four basic properties. It is one of the most potent scavengers of free radicals; acts as a natural anti-inflammatory; helps generate collagen and hyaluronic acid to repair membranes; and helps dilate blood vessels.
The patented extract is sourced from the bark of pine trees grown exclusively in southwest France using no pesticides or herbicides. The concentrated formula is extracted using a safe, chemical-free process that guarantees the potency and purity of Pycnogenol’s active compounds. Pycnogenol is extensively clinically tested, extremely safe, and effective. The antioxidant power of Pycnogenol is 20 times greater than vitamin C, and 50 times greater than vitamin E.

How it works
Pycnogenol is one of the most potent natural scavengers of free radicals, fighting oxidative damage in two ways: it stimulates our cells to double their antioxidant power, and cleans up free radicals in the blood stream. Many vital functions rely on the permeabilty of certain tissues. Capillaries must be permeable enough to allow blood vessels to deliver nutrients to cells and remove waste, but if they are too permeable, they are no longer a barrier to infection. Pycnogenol strengthens these tissues, which are easily damaged by free radicals and aging, improving peripheral circulation and reducing venous insufficiency.
By boosting endothelial production of nitric oxide, Pycnogenol increases vasodilation of blood vessels to improve blood flow and prevent stress-induced constriction of arteries. Because free radical damage can lead to high LDL (bad) cholesterol, Pycnogenol’s antioxidant activity helps balance cholesterol levels.
As an anti-inflammatory, Pycnogenol helps produce collagen and hyaluronic acid. Collagen, which decreases as we age, is present in all the connective tissue in our bodies, but it is especially important for skin and joint health. Hyaluronic acid helps lubricate the joints. It is present in the skin, where it is involved with tissue repair.
