MagSense is an easy-to-take powder and provides an ideal dose of magnesium in the form of magnesium glycinate, an efficiently absorbed and well-tolerated form of magnesium. MagSense also includes other important minerals, vitamins and nutrients that are involved in biochemical reactions and metabolism in the body. These include B vitamins, minerals like calcium and potassium, amino acids like taurine and glutamine and many more. All of these are essential factors in the body and work with magnesium to promote optimal functioning of the heart, nerves, muscles and other systems throughout the body. MagSense also contains Malic Acid. Malic acid is important for energy production in the body, and when taken with magnesium has been shown to be beneficial for reducing chronic fatigue, muscle pain and fibromyalgia.

Magnesium – An often overlooked mineral
Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in the human body, and is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady and bones strong. It is also involved in energy metabolism, protein and DNA synthesis.1
Without magnesium the body’s organs and tissues cannot function properly and a deficiency in this crucial mineral can affect virtually every organ system in the body. Magnesium deficiency has been implicated in a vast array of conditions including cardiovascular disease, behavioural problems, diabetes, chronic fatigue, migraine headaches, muscular complaints (including restless leg syndrome), osteoporosis and PMS.1,2 In the skeletal muscles a magnesium deficiency can cause twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness – including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Magnesium allows muscles to relax.1,2
Evidence suggests that magnesium also plays an important role in regulating blood pressure. The DASH study (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) suggested that high blood pressure could be significantly lowered by a diet high in magnesium, potassium, and calcium.3 In another study, the incidence of high blood pressure was examined in over 30,000 U.S. male health professionals. It was found that a greater magnesium intake was significantly associated with a lower risk of hypertension.4 Low magnesium intake has also been linked to an increased incidence of Type 2 diabetes, as magnesium plays a crucial role in insulin regulation as well!5
Unfortunately many Canadians are not getting enough of this essential mineral. A recent study by Health Canada has shown that more than 34% of Canadians have a magnesium intake that is below the estimated average requirement.6 This means that more than one third of Canadians have insufficient magnesium levels, and are at risk for various health problems associated with low magnesium levels.
